The Museum of Anthropology at Wake Forest University creates awareness of global cultures by collecting, protecting, managing, and exhibiting archaeological artifacts, ethnographic objects, and visual arts of past and present peoples, and providing opportunities for intercultural learning.

      Gazing at the Contemporary World Museum of Anthropology Gazing at the Contemporary World Presented by Museum of Anthropology at Museum of Anthropology January 25-March 31, 2012 In its American premiere, this exhibit examines transformations in contemporary Japanese society and landscapes over recent decades by providing an overview of the diverse photographic expression that emerged during that time period. The exhibit features text in English and Japanese.

      02/16/12	Lecture: Candomblé in Public: African Religion, Media and Politics in Contemporary Brazil Museum of Anthropology Lecture: Candomblé in Public: African Religion, Media and Politics in Contemporary Brazil Presented by Museum of Anthropology at Museum of Anthropology February 16, 2012 Elina Hartikainen, pre-doctoral fellow at the University of Virginia, will discuss her research into religious and racial identity politics in contemporary Brazil. Specifically, she will examine how Brazilian practitioners of Candomblé, an African diasporic religion, imagine and perform religious ceremonies and address public discourses on African religiosity and race, as well as democracy and multiculturalism.

Over the past 15 years, anthropologist Karen Nakamura of Yale University has been chronicling the lives of people with physical and psychiatric disabilities in contemporary Japan through still images and ethnographic film. Presented by Museum of Anthropology at Museum of Anthropology April 12, 2012 Dr. Dean Snow, professor of anthropology at Penn State University, will discuss his research on 30,000-year-old hand stencils in the caves of France and Spain and his unexpected results about the gender of the artists. This event is cosponsored by the WFU Humanities Institute and the Department of Anthropology.
      04/17/12- 08/25/12	Recent Additions to the Wake Forest Museum of Anthropology Collection Museum of Anthropology Recent Additions to the Wake Forest Museum of Anthropology Collection Presented by Museum of Anthropology at Museum of Anthropology April 17-August 25, 2012 The Museum of Anthropology showcases recent donations to its permanent collection with this exhibit featuring archaeological and ethnographic artifacts from cultures around the world. Highlights include intricately decorated personal adornment from Papua New Guinea, Tang Dynasty ceramics from China, and saddle rugs from the Salgo Collection.
