About the artist:
Join ELSEWHERE ARTIST COLLABORATIVE in building a living art museum and international site for collaborative creativity in downtown Greensboro. Sculpted from a three-story former thrift store housing one woman's immense collection of surplus, thrift, and antiques, Elsewhere's one-of-a-kind museum inspires cultural wonder, tactile insight, and creative conversation. Our interactive arts programming unites diverse communities through creative experiences, bringing new futures to urban life and cultural imagination to Greensboro and beyond. A LIVING MUSEUM: Elsewhere's museum is an unfolding work in progress. The museum highlights our shared cultural past and present through three stories of interactive artworks and object displays created by over 100 artists from across the globe. Visitors encounter artists in the midst of their creative process, and discover new works during each visit. Our front window performance theater brings contemporary art to the street and our new urban garden offers a green community site in the middle of the South Elm District. A VISITING ARTIST PROGRAM: Elsewhere hosts over 35 emerging and established artists from around the globe each year, who visit Elsewhere to transform the collection into new works across creative media. Elsewhere's emphasis on collaborative community offers a new model for creativity and a new vision for site-specific art. COLLABORATIVE EDUCATION: Elsewhere creates collaborative curricula that puts ideas into action, offering inspiration and critical insight through the exploration of elsewhere's environment for local and national learning communities. INTERACTIVE EVENTS: Elsewhere brings interactive art and experimental performance to Triad audiences. Our Artist Conversation Series presents an artist-designed event each week throughout the summer months. Group art openings, special exhibitions, street theater, musical performances, film screenings and panels on contemporary culture form a dynamic line-up of exciting contemporary arts and thought in Greensboro.
