Artist Detail
Alexis Lavine
Visual Artist
About the artist: "Making art is an essential and defining part of who I am and how I live," says Alexis Lavine. "I see so much that intrigues me, and I am endlessly challenged to express what I see and how I feel, in my own way, on paper or canvas."
Alexis began her art career with a Masters degree in Medical Illustration from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. However, for many years she has devoted most of her artistic energy to watercolor and oil painting. Her award winning paintings have been in numerous juried and gallery exhibitions, and they hang in private and corporate collections throughout the country and overseas.
Alexis has lived in Greensboro and has been an active member of the local art community since 2002.
Alexis is an enthusiastic art instructor, who teaches painting and drawing classes and workshops.
She loves to communicate about art, to share her experience and knowledge, and to help her students achieve greater success and pleasure in their work.
Alexis is a signature member of the National Association of Women Artists, the Baltimore Watercolor Society, the Piedmont Outdoor Painting Society, and the Associated Artists of Winston-Salem, and she is a founding member of The Western Maryland Watercolor Society. She is represented by Heart of Living Gallery andf Two Art Chicks Gallery in Greensboro, Solo Art Gallery in Winston-Salem, and other galleries in NC, SC, VA, and MD.
A passionate "plein air" painter, Alexis takes tremendous pleasure from painting outdoors, on location. She sets her easel up on sidewalks, in parks or gardens, wherever she is inspired by the landscape or the architecture. While outdoor painting may not be as comfortable as painting in the studio, she believes that the total sensory experience of being surrounded by the landscape leads to far more expressive and exciting paintings.
