Green Hill Center for NC Art

Tuesday - Saturday 10 am - 5 pm Wednesday 10 am - 7 pm Sunday 2 - 5 pm Green Hill Center for NC Art is a visual arts center which showcases the best of North Carolina's contemporary art. Green Hill is also dedicated to providing opportunities for education through a series of artist related programs. These programs include arts-oriented lunch discussion groups, seminars by visiting artists, symposiums focused on underlying issues in the NC art world, and more. Green Hill is located in the heart of thriving downtown Greensboro, across the street from Center City Park. It is an easy walk to a number of nearby restaurants, shops, and hotels. The Green Hill Center also includes ArtQuest, a giant art studio for kids and families designed by North Carolina artists. Admission is free, but we ask for a $5 donation.

      Discussion on changing interpretations of historic architecture. Jo Ramsay Leimenstoll, AIA Professor and Director of Graduate Study Department of Interior Architecture, University of North Carolina at Greensboro and author of "Thomas Day: Master Craftsman and Free Man of Color" will present "The Architectural Legacy of Thomas Day". Thomas Day was a freed slave artisan, who produced furniture and architectural carved wood work for boom era plantations in the Southeast. From Stagville Plantation Kimberly Puryear and Alton Mitchell the interim and new site managers will speaking about the site and the changes in the interpretation of the house and adjacent buildings including the slave quarters which is the subject of one of Elizabeth Matheson's photographs.
