The Barn Dinner Theatre

Conceived in the early 60’s, The Barn Dinner Theatre in Greensboro was the second location of what eventually became 27 in the chain during its heyday. The shows were cast in New York, then the cast would travel from one Barn Dinner Theatre to the next performing each show, as far as Texas & New Mexico. To accommodate the actors, each theatre had, as we still do here, living quarters upstairs. These included kitchens, showers, and bedrooms. Occasionally cast members still reside on the property during the run of a show. The casts in the early days actually waited on the tables, then rushed to get ready for the show. Our staff & casts today are grateful this is not still the case! As the decades went by, many of the locations were closed or sold off. Today this location in Greensboro is the only remaining property from the original chain.

      The musical was electrifying and took you back to the good ole' days when life was much simplier. I thought I was in New York City at a Broadway Play. It had lots of engery flowing from the characters and it pulled you into every performance. I could hardley contain myself. A performance where you sing, dance, and get your audience involved to the point that no one wants to leave says alot in it self. When it comes back again, I want to be the first to know so I can get everyone I know to come. If you want the entertainment of your life in a city that is not New York but has the performance as if you were in New York this is the Show you Must see. Thank You for the opportunity to comment!       My wife and I saw this show several years ago.It is an excellant show. Very enjoyable, great music. I would recommend it to any one who is a Patsy Cline or country music fan.

      The Barn is showing it's age. Walking in the door is akin to going into your 95 year old great grandmother's house: stuffy, worn, unappealing odors. The food is decent, but displays country side... Expand

      The Barn is showing it's age. Walking in the door is akin to going into your 95 year old great grandmother's house: stuffy, worn, unappealing odors. The food is decent, but displays country side board you can make at home. The dessert bar is bland and offers poor fare. Finer desserts are offered at much finer prices. The 1st act was slow and boring. The dialog is stilted and misses numerous opportunities to be clever, which is apparent to even the untrained. The 2nd act picks up the pace and boy, can Robin Doby (sp?) sing. She could do a one woman show. Our waiter was somewhere else mentally and certainly did not want to be there that night. He bordered on rude. Go back? Only if someone insists they must go and I have to go along. Collapse
