Full of heart and a terrific new Broadway score, this Tony Award® winning Best Musical is "one of the funniest shows you're ever likely to see," praised Entertainment Weekly. When the denizens of Lower East Side's Avenue Q get together-puppets and people-you're in for a happy send-up of Sesame Street story telling that's hilarious and right to the point. "Subversive" and "uproarious" praised The New Yorker.

The song will set you free. From the hopeless slums of Philadelphia to the heights of fame, from anger towards almost everyone to a love for all mankind, Ethel Waters lived it all. Now her life takes center stage. From a childhood as a thief and unwilling bride, she became a Vaudeville success, a recording sensation and a Broadway and Hollywood star. Then a reputation for being difficult and her own distrust made her a recluse until she found a purpose beyond herself as a performer with the Billy Graham Crusades. Through it all, there were the songs, the ones that gave her strength and the ones that made her a legend. This is her incredible story, filled with the greatest hits of a lifetime, including “Stormy Weather” and “Am I Blue?”

The world premiere of an Appalachian saga! Some guys have all the luck. In the tradition of BROTHER WOLF, BEAUTIFUL STAR and BLOODY BLACKBEARD comes a new play blending magic, myth and music. Chance Presnell is lucky. Abandoned at birth, he is rescued by a stranger. He meets his wife by accident. And coincidence saves his only child. But luck can change. As war calls him to Europe and an old jealousy splits his family apart, fate twists and his fortunes change. From a farm in the Blue Ridge to a mill village in the Piedmont, from the trenches of World War I to the Mexican border, Chance must take his destiny into his own hands as he searches for a place where all that is lost can once again be found.

Milsap has always moved successfully between genres, amassing 40 #1 records, ten gold and platinum albums and six Grammy awards along the way. Known best for his country tunes, if you were to hear his latest venture, you would probably have no idea the singer on “Just For A Thrill” is a country artist. After all, it’s a pop album of classic standards without an ounce of twang, an album that Milsap has been waiting decades to make. Said his friend, Ray Charles, “You got a lot of music in your heart, son. You need to follow your heart.” And so he did!

Porgy and Bess is recognized as an American masterpiece. A story that intertwines pride, prejudice, pathos and passion through a jazz and blues influenced score. Originally billed as a “Folk Opera”, Porgy and Bess introduced classic Gershwin songs including “Summertime”, “I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’” and “It Ain’t Necessarily So”, as well as magnificent and enthralling choruses that stunned music and drama critics alike at its premiere in 1935. This production, produced by Living Arts, Inc., was launched in January of 1993 to bring this Gershwin masterpiece to audiences in cities big and small in the United States and around the world, most of which had never seen a professional production of Porgy and Bess. Since our critically acclaimed debut in 1993, this production of Porgy and Bess has been performed live in over 1,000 shows in 17 different countries on 6 continents, including 49 of the fifty United States, reaching a total audience of over 1.5 million people.

Who are the "Church Basement Ladies" and what's the show about? A celebration of the church basement kitchen and the women who work there, Church Basement Ladies is a new musical comedy featuring four distinct characters and their relationships as they organize the food and solve the problems of a rural Minnesota church about to undergo changes in 1964. From the elderly matriarch of the kitchen to the young bride-to-be learning the proper order of things, we see them handle a record breaking Christmas dinner, the funeral of a dear friend, a Hawaiian Easter Fund Raiser, and, of course, a steaming hot July wedding. They stave off potential disasters, share and debate recipes, instruct the young, and keep the Pastor on due course while thoroughly enjoying, (and tolerating) each other as the true "steel magnolias" of the church. Funny and down to earth, audiences will recognize these ladies as they witness the church year unfold from below the house of God. This is most certainly true! Church Basement Ladies uses the renowned Scandinavian Lutheran humor writings of "The Lutheran Ladies," Janet Martin and Suzann Nelson, authors of a host of humorous books the most famous being Growing Up Lutheran. The script is by Jessica Zuehlke and Jim Stowell with music and lyrics by composer Drew Jansen, who gave us the music for the popular long-running hit musical, How To Talk Minnesotan, The Musical. Buffet Dinner prepared and served by University of North Carolina School of the Arts Dining Services 5:30-7:30 PM on the 10th floor of the Stevens Center Fresh Fruit Salad Sweet Georgia Pecan Chicken w/ gingered sweet potato casserole Grilled Salmon w/ wild rice Vegetable Medley Cheese Cake Rolls w/ butter Ice tea, water, coffee

A charter member of the Supremes, Mary Wilson has long contended that she could have been as popular a singer as Diana Ross, had Motown's Berry Gordy not determined for extra-musical reasons that only Ross was to get star treatment. Ross, Wilson, and Florence Ballard were the original Supremes. They began working together as teens in the Primes and Primettes. Wilson remained a Supreme from 1960 until 1976. She has had an erratic solo career, cutting one LP, Red Hot, for Motown in 1979 before departing permanently. She co-wrote Dreamgirl, My Life as a Supreme to document what she felt were the widespread abuses artists suffered during Motown's heyday. Wilson was featured on numerous talk shows and programs during 1987. She also recorded a single for Britain's Motorcity label that year, "Don't Get Mad, Get Even." She followed it with a cover of the Five Stairsteps'"Oooh Child" in 1989. Ms. Mary Wilson still performs with the same passion as she did singing with the original Supremes, but the world renowned celebrity is now using her fame and flair to promote humanitarian efforts to end hunger, raise AIDS awareness and encourage world peace. While Ms. Wilson is best known as a founding member of the world’s most famous female trio – they recorded 12 No.1 hits from 1964 to 1969 – the legendary singer’s career did not stop there, and she continues to soar to untold heights.

The term “collage” derives from the French word, “coller,” meaning “to glue." The word was coined by Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso in the beginning of the 20th century when the technique became a distinctive part of modern art. Since then numerous artists have utilized the technique in diverse ways to create unique works of art. The individual elements that comprise a collage and which can range from diverse images and text to a variety of materials, all join together to determine the work’s content or purpose. The Weatherspoon has an extensive collection of collages, many of which have not been on previous display.

Goal: To raise awareness to stop violence against women and girls and funds for our beneficiaries – The Sherri Denese Jackson Foundation A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer: Writings To Stop Violence Against Women and Girls, is a groundbreaking collection of monologues by world-renowned authors and playwrights, edited by Eve Ensler and Mollie Doyle and commissioned by V-Day for the first V-Day: UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPS festival, which took place June 2006 in New York City. The writings are inspired, funny, angry, heartfelt, tragic, and beautiful. But above all, together they create a true and profound portrait of how violence against women affects every one of us. A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, And A Prayer are a call to the world to demand an end to violence against women. All proceeds from the book benefit V-Day. About V-Day V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler’s award winning play The Vagina Monologues and other artistic works. In 2009, over 4200 V-Day benefit events took place produced by volunteer activists in the U.S. and around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls. To date, the V-Day movement has raised over $70 million and educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it, crafted international educational, media and PSA campaigns, launched the Karama program in the Middle East, reopened shelters, and funded over 11,000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in Democratic Republic Of Congo, Haiti, Kenya, South Dakota, Egypt and Iraq. V-Day was named one of Worth magazine's "100 Best Charities" in 2001 and Marie Claire’s “Top Ten Charities” in 2006. The 'V' in V-Day stands for Victory, Valentine and Vagina. http://www.vday.org

The music is all Elvis – the story is all new! All Shook Up is a musical comedy built around a number of songs made famous by Elvis Presley. It's not a biographical revue. It takes place in 1955, somewhere in middle America, where one girl's dream and a surprise visit from a mysterious leather-jacketed, guitar-playing stranger help a small town to discover the magic of romance and the power of rock & roll. ALL SHOOK UP combines 25 smash hits of Elvis Presley with a new story of a rock ‘n roll rebel. Featuring such classics as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Burning Love,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Don’t Be Cruel” and many more. The whole town ignites in this hip-swiveling, smash hit musical comedy. “There’s a whole lotta shakin’ going on in ALL SHOOK UP” - Variety

A Play (with music) by Del Shores
(author of Sordid Lives)

Willi is the trailer trash housewife of the title, not necessarily of her own volition. Her abusive husband won't let her get a job, one of her children is dead, and the other is verboten by her husband because he's gay. Her best and only friend, a large black woman who lives next door, worries about her constantly, always concerned that Willi's husband will end up killing her.

Things go from bad to worse when a new woman comes to live in the trailer park and ends up having an affair with Willi's husband.

A blues singer weaves songs into the action, commenting upon Willi's predicament and urging her toward decisive action.
