Full of heart and a terrific new Broadway score, this Tony Award® winning Best Musical is "one of the funniest shows you're ever likely to see," praised Entertainment Weekly. When the denizens of Lower East Side's Avenue Q get together-puppets and people-you're in for a happy send-up of Sesame Street story telling that's hilarious and right to the point. "Subversive" and "uproarious" praised The New Yorker.

The world premiere of an Appalachian saga! Some guys have all the luck. In the tradition of BROTHER WOLF, BEAUTIFUL STAR and BLOODY BLACKBEARD comes a new play blending magic, myth and music. Chance Presnell is lucky. Abandoned at birth, he is rescued by a stranger. He meets his wife by accident. And coincidence saves his only child. But luck can change. As war calls him to Europe and an old jealousy splits his family apart, fate twists and his fortunes change. From a farm in the Blue Ridge to a mill village in the Piedmont, from the trenches of World War I to the Mexican border, Chance must take his destiny into his own hands as he searches for a place where all that is lost can once again be found.

Milsap has always moved successfully between genres, amassing 40 #1 records, ten gold and platinum albums and six Grammy awards along the way. Known best for his country tunes, if you were to hear his latest venture, you would probably have no idea the singer on “Just For A Thrill” is a country artist. After all, it’s a pop album of classic standards without an ounce of twang, an album that Milsap has been waiting decades to make. Said his friend, Ray Charles, “You got a lot of music in your heart, son. You need to follow your heart.” And so he did!

Porgy and Bess is recognized as an American masterpiece. A story that intertwines pride, prejudice, pathos and passion through a jazz and blues influenced score. Originally billed as a “Folk Opera”, Porgy and Bess introduced classic Gershwin songs including “Summertime”, “I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’” and “It Ain’t Necessarily So”, as well as magnificent and enthralling choruses that stunned music and drama critics alike at its premiere in 1935. This production, produced by Living Arts, Inc., was launched in January of 1993 to bring this Gershwin masterpiece to audiences in cities big and small in the United States and around the world, most of which had never seen a professional production of Porgy and Bess. Since our critically acclaimed debut in 1993, this production of Porgy and Bess has been performed live in over 1,000 shows in 17 different countries on 6 continents, including 49 of the fifty United States, reaching a total audience of over 1.5 million people.

A charter member of the Supremes, Mary Wilson has long contended that she could have been as popular a singer as Diana Ross, had Motown's Berry Gordy not determined for extra-musical reasons that only Ross was to get star treatment. Ross, Wilson, and Florence Ballard were the original Supremes. They began working together as teens in the Primes and Primettes. Wilson remained a Supreme from 1960 until 1976. She has had an erratic solo career, cutting one LP, Red Hot, for Motown in 1979 before departing permanently. She co-wrote Dreamgirl, My Life as a Supreme to document what she felt were the widespread abuses artists suffered during Motown's heyday. Wilson was featured on numerous talk shows and programs during 1987. She also recorded a single for Britain's Motorcity label that year, "Don't Get Mad, Get Even." She followed it with a cover of the Five Stairsteps'"Oooh Child" in 1989. Ms. Mary Wilson still performs with the same passion as she did singing with the original Supremes, but the world renowned celebrity is now using her fame and flair to promote humanitarian efforts to end hunger, raise AIDS awareness and encourage world peace. While Ms. Wilson is best known as a founding member of the world’s most famous female trio – they recorded 12 No.1 hits from 1964 to 1969 – the legendary singer’s career did not stop there, and she continues to soar to untold heights. Buffet Dinner prepared and served by University of North Carolina School of the Arts Dining Services 5:30-7:30 PM on the 10th floor of the Stevens Center Caesar Salad Seafood Fettucine Alfredo w/ shrimp and scallops served over fettucine Grilled London Broil w/ au jus and oven-roasted potatoes Vegetable Medley Black Forest Cake Rolls w/ butter Ice tea, water, coffee

And there's no better soundtrack for those reminiscences than classic beach tunes and golden oldies performed by the Drifters and the legendary "Duke of Earl" - Gene Chandler. You're sure to be left feeling some kind of wonderful before this night is through!

Once hailed by no lesser giant than Count Basie as "a tough act to follow," it's fitting that Pieces of a Dream should put the coda on a season of exceptional entertainment. Over a 30-year career that includes serving as the backup band for sax master Grover Washington, Jr., plus two top-5 hits on R&R's NAC chart, this talented trio has defined the very essence of smooth jazz.

The Canadian organist and composer, Rachel Laurin received her education at the Montreal Conservatory, where she became the pupil and disciple of her principal teacher Raymond Daveluy, also an organist and composer. She has won many awards including the Holtkamp-American Guild of Organists Composition Competition in 2008. Although she has been Titular Organist at Notre Dame Cathedral in Ottawa, she now primarily devotes her time to organ recitals, compositions, lectures, and master-classes. She is in great demand for improvisation teaching. She has performed organ recitals not only in Canada, but also in the United States and Europe. Her approximately fifty compositions have been recorded and performed in major cities in the United States, Europe, Asia, and South Africa. Among her upcoming commissions is a work for harp and organ for the AGO 2010 National Convention of the American Guild of Organists in Washington, DC.

With New Jersey's New Meadowlands Stadium as their backdrop, GRAMMY Award-winning hometown heroes Bon Jovi performed at a concert and media event today that announced "The Circle World Tour." The band is preparing to spend nearly two years spanning the globe. Beginning with the band's North American tour launch on February 19th, 2010 in Seattle, WA, Bon Jovi will spend much of the next two years on the road, performing 135 shows in 30 countries. Following in the footsteps of their hugely successful "Lost Highway Tour, Bon Jovi will draw fans around the world into The Circle, with a residency at London's O2 Arena in June 2010 before returning to America in the fall for an additional nationwide leg, and further dates well into 2011. Having sold more than 120 million albums and performed more than 2,600 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans, Bon Jovi is at their best when they’re on the move, and that’s truer now than ever before. The November 10th, 2009 release of Bon Jovi’s new album, The Circle, and the band’s subsequent world tour, provides a powerful reassertion of Bon Jovi’s commitment to the hard-hitting rock & roll that has been the band’s indelible signature since it began more than 26 years ago.

The line up for the April 30th show will be Martina McBride, Blake Shelton, and a 3rd act TBA. Previously purchased tickets for the December 10th, 2009 show will be honored for the re-scheduled show date on April 30th, 2010. Country music superstar Martina McBride has created an exceptional evening flavored with boisterous revelry, sexy romance and honest reflection. With her countless hits and audience favorites, fans will be dancing in the aisles to “God-Fearin’ Women”, fist waving to the likes of “This One’s For the Girls”, holding on tight with “I Just Call You Mine” and remembering what matters most with “In My Daughter’s Eyes”. Add heartbreak, with “Concrete Angel,” and this event covers the gamut of emotional release. Not to be outdone, Blake Shelton’s hits have covered their own creative spectrum, from “Some Beach’s” hint of reggae, to the heart wrenching emotions of “The Baby”. The multidimensional presence of Blake Shelton provides his audiences with songs possessing the passionate lyrics of “Home”, the romance of “I’ll Just Hold On”, as well as “Country Strong”, which celebrates the country life Blake knows and loves. Blake’s newest single, “Hillbilly Bone”, featuring Trace Adkins, has held a spot on Billboard’s chart for six weeks, breaking into the top 30 with no signs of slowing down.

In Route 66, a gang of rowdy Chicago service station attendants (played by Brian C. Gray, Dylan R. Hauck, Reid Robinson and Casey Ross) strip off their snappy uniforms and head off on a westward-bound road-trip filled with music, dance and highway mischief. The talented quartet of singing grease monkeys leave Chicago and follows the Mother Road down through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and conclude their travels at the beach in Santa Monica, California.

Directed and choreographed by Kimberly Faith Hickman, the show features rock and pop music from the 1950’s and ‘60’s including such hit tunes as King of the Road, Dead Man’s Curve, Six Days on the Road, Hot Rod Queen, I Get Around, Little Old Lady from Pasadena, GTO, Fun-Fun-Fun and, of course, Route 66.

Route 66 will be performed Sunday, March 28th at 3:00pm at The Mebane Arts and Community Center in Mebane. Tickets for the show are $10 in advance and $15 at the door and are on sale now. Call 336-226-4495 for reservations.

Skirt Magazine is turning two!
Party will feature all-star lineup of men in skirts

Ricky Proehl. Austin Carty. Brad Jones. Zack Matheny. What do the pro athlete, "Survivor" alum, TV journalist and politician have in common? They'll all be wearing skirts at skirt! Greensboro’s second birthday party March 30! See them plus Brian Higgins of Sustainable Greensboro, firefighter Tim Gibbs and artist Bill Mangum compete to see who can raise the most money for charity and a spot in skirt!

For two years, men like Eric Chilton, Mark Holder and Charlie Engle have been brave enough to bare their legs in print for a skirt! magazine feature called “He’s So Original.” It’s a testament to skirt!’s view that gender shouldn’t restrict us when it comes to our choices, from clothing to careers. What better way to celebrate that ideal than with a party honoring two of skirt!’s favorite things, feminism and fashion?

The seven celebrity men we’ve selected will be paired with seven local boutiques: Mack and Mack, Linnea’s, Simply Meg’s, Palm Avenue, Harley-Davidson of Greensboro, Jack Cecil and The Honey Bun Boutique. Each model has chosen a charity he’d like to support, and party guests will vote for their favorite model by making a donation to his charity. All donations will be given to the respective charities, and the man who raises the most money will be featured as “He’s So Original” in an upcoming issue. In addition, the participating stores will each be donating a gift card so that seven lucky guests will be able to take home the fashions they see featured at the party, as well as other door prizes and goodie bags from area businesses.

Skirt! Greensboro is pleased to be teaming up with REFS restaurant, located at 3404 Whitehurst Road behind Village Tavern, to host this fabulous event on Tuesday, March 30, from 5:30 to 8pm. Live music will be provided by “He’s So Original” alumni Chuck Folds and Steve Williard, a.k.a. Steve and Chuck.

Don't miss the event everyone will be talking about! Admission is $5 and includes one skirtini, delicious hors d'oeuvres and $2 in charity donations. See you there!

The music is all Elvis – the story is all new! All Shook Up is a musical comedy built around a number of songs made famous by Elvis Presley. It's not a biographical revue. It takes place in 1955, somewhere in middle America, where one girl's dream and a surprise visit from a mysterious leather-jacketed, guitar-playing stranger help a small town to discover the magic of romance and the power of rock & roll. ALL SHOOK UP combines 25 smash hits of Elvis Presley with a new story of a rock ‘n roll rebel. Featuring such classics as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Burning Love,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Don’t Be Cruel” and many more. The whole town ignites in this hip-swiveling, smash hit musical comedy. “There’s a whole lotta shakin’ going on in ALL SHOOK UP” - Variety

A Play (with music) by Del Shores
(author of Sordid Lives)

Willi is the trailer trash housewife of the title, not necessarily of her own volition. Her abusive husband won't let her get a job, one of her children is dead, and the other is verboten by her husband because he's gay. Her best and only friend, a large black woman who lives next door, worries about her constantly, always concerned that Willi's husband will end up killing her.

Things go from bad to worse when a new woman comes to live in the trailer park and ends up having an affair with Willi's husband.

A blues singer weaves songs into the action, commenting upon Willi's predicament and urging her toward decisive action.
