"Intimate Apparel" is set in a 1905 New York City boarding house for single black women. The play follows the story of Esther, an illiterate, thirty-something spinster who creates beautiful, custom-made undergarments for women she would never be able to address on the street. She dares to seek her own happiness and love when she begins to be courted through the mail by a man from Barbados.
