Hercules of the Revolution Comes to Life
March 15-March 16, 2008
Add Review/CommentPeter Francisco, arguably the tallest and strongest soldier to fight in the Revolutionary War, is coming to life on March 15-16th when a descendant of similar stature will be performing a “dramatic impersonation” at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro, North Carolina. Known as the “Giant Virginian” or “Hercules of the Revolution”, Peter Francisco was 6’6”, weighed 260 pounds, and fought with a 6’ broadsword that George Washington had specially forged for him. "Without him, we would have lost two crucial battles, perhaps the war, and with it our freedom," said George Washington. “He was truly a one-man army.”
