Add Review/CommentSt. Francis Hosts Best-Selling Authors of “The Faith Club” for Interfaith Forums --Church Joins With The Jewish Federation to Host Special Community Events— St. Francis Episcopal Church, a parish of the Diocese of North Carolina, has reached out to the Greensboro Jewish Federation and representatives of the Muslim community to sponsor and host two interfaith events on Wednesday, February 13th featuring the authors of the New York Times bestseller, “The Faith Club—A Muslim. A Christian. A Jew. Three Women Search for Understanding.” A luncheon with the authors, followed by a book signing, will be held at Beth David Synagogue, beginning at 11:45 AM. That evening, a dessert reception and panel discussion with the authors will take place at St. Francis, beginning at 7:00 PM. A book signing will also follow this event. The Faith Club, Ranya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver and Priscilla Warner, three mothers from three faiths—Islam, Christianity, and Judaism—originally got together to write a picture book for their children highlighting the connections between their religions. Instead, their dialogue led to provocative, honest and candid discussions with arguments, difficult moments and ultimately, respect and appreciation for the things that each holds dearest. They discovered a special friendship—and themselves. “These interfaith events represent a wonderful opportunity for St. Francis and other faith groups in Greensboro to come together to celebrate all we have in common while honoring our differences through greater understanding and respect,” said St. Francis’ Rector, the Rev. Michael Moulden, who initially extended the invitation to the authors. “These events will launch our Lenten Program, our annual spiritual journey into the yearnings of God, as we prepare for our Easter celebrations. I am honored and delighted that the Jewish Federation has agreed to partner with us and I hope this will be the first of many collaborations between our Episcopal congregation, the Jewish Federation and other faith communities in Greensboro.” “The Federation is looking forward to working with St. Francis Episcopal Church on this project and we applaud their leadership and initiative for inviting the Faith Club authors to Greensboro,” said Deborah Kintzing, Director of Campaign & Communications for the Greensboro Jewish Federation. “The authors speak eloquently to issues not often addressed among people of different faiths and I know that all of Greensboro will benefit from their message. We’re very pleased to sponsor their visit.” Suraiya Mosley, a Muslim member of the planning committee, said she had great admiration for the authors of “The Faith Club” for accepting the invitation and inspiration of God to tread upon a path that many of us only briefly confront in our minds. “The inherent values of love, respect, and dignity are deep-rooted in the Oneness of God and the Unity of Humankind.” Barnes & Noble will be on hand to sell copies of the book to those interested at each event. Both events are open to the public. The cost of the luncheon is $18 and a $10 donation is suggested for the evening event. St. Francis Episcopal Church is a uniquely divergent community of individuals and families who have come together to embrace simplicity, compassion and hope.
