Trade and Treasure: The Silk Road on Land and Sea

Virginia Bower, a scholar of Chinese art and archaeology from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, will present an overview of the history of the Silk Road of China. She also will discuss Tang dynasty Changsha ceramics, comparing and contrasting pieces on display at the Museum with examples in other collections and works that have been excavated or recovered in China and elsewhere, including those from a ninth-century shipwreck.
