The African American Atelier will open its Winter/Spring exhibition schedule with the "22nd Annual Founding Members Invitational Exhibition," highlighting the beginning of 22 years of dedicated service to Guilford County.

The exhibit will feature over 22 artists including several founding members — Henry Sumpter, Floyd Newkirk, Alma Adams, John Rogers, Vandorn Hinnant and the late Eva Hamlin Miller — and other invited local and regional talent.

This year's invitation to the opening features the piece "Running Waters, Fields of Flowers" by founding member Henry Sumpter, who has been specializing in batik paintings for more than 40 years and has displayed his work at numerous venues throughout the United States. His style is an eclectic collection of imagery including a mixture of artistic styles and references found in contemporary and old world foundations from varied cultures.

The opening is 3 p.m. Jan. 13 in the Greensboro Cultural Center.
