Art historian Ellen Wiley Todd talks about American realist painter Kenneth Hayes Miller and his depictions of urban scenes from the 1920s and 1930s, including the Weatherspoon's Woman with Packages currently on view in the exhibition "Telling Tales: Narratives from the 1930s."

Todd is associate professor of art history and director of the master's program in art history at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. Her research interests include urban realist paintings of the 1920s and 1930s with a special focus on issues of gender, class and labor. Her current work addresses these concerns in art and photojournalism of the Progressive era.
