Iona is a Celtic band from the Washington, D.C. area. Founder Barbara Ryan is lead vocalist and accompanies herself on bouzouki, bodhran and percussion. Bernard Argent adds flute, doumbek and occasionally guitar. He is also the band’s yarn spinner. Chuck Lawhorn is bassist and also dabbles in whistle and sings a mean tenor harmony. Jim Queen, a veteran of the Air Force Band, is fiddler and also adds a touch of banjo and guitar. Traveling with the band will be dancer Kathleen Larrick adding an exciting visual dimension to Iona’s performance. She has studied Irish step dancing, Highland dance and Appalachian clogging. Although Fiddle & Bow had an early reputation for presenting Celtic music, we haven’t been bringing in many Celtic bands over the past several years. We’re excited about bringing this exciting band to our stage again.
