British indie success story Bloc Party has hit its stride with sophomore release A Weekend in the City. The concept album details the happenings in frontman Kele Okereke's East London during the course of a busy weekend. The fun and the serious, the parties and the politics, it's all present amid slashing guitars and disco beats. Beautiful youth-culture moments are captured with lyrics like "I love you in the morning, when you're still strung out" and Okereke sums up equally well the post 9/11 and 7/7 paranoia in England with the chilling "I'm sitting on the roof of the house with a shotgun" line in Hunting for Witches. Okereke's passionate vocals and Bloc Party's frenetic instrumentation make this an album--and a live show--not to miss.
