Art After Dark is a new hands-on program for adults aimed at inspiring creativity. Each workshop explores a different creative process and uses the "Existed: Leonardo Drew" exhibition as a departure point. Participate in one or all three workshops. No experience is necessary. For details and to reserve a space, email weatherspoon@uncg.edu or call 336.334.5770. Check your junk drawer or beneath the cushions of your couch for treasures that will inspire your creativity. Artist Todd Drake leads guests in creating personal assemblages with a variety of drawing and sculptural materials. Bring 3 to 5 inexpensive palm-sized items that can become part of a work of art. All other materials provided. Todd Drake is currently an artist in residence at UNC Chapel Hill’s Center for Global Initiatives—where he began working as a 2004-2005 Rockefeller fellow. A painter and photographer, Drake often produces his works in collaboration with community groups. Drake has exhibited nationally, including galleries in Washington DC, Chicago, Charlotte, and Greensboro. He has an MFA in painting from UNCG, teaches studio art at Rockingham Community College, and speaks on Activism in Contemporary Art. Visit his blog on art and social activism called "Make Art Like You Care" (http://makeartlikeyoucare.blogspot.com/). Looking for ways to instill more creativity in your students? Educators are invited to a 30-minute preprogram discussion before each Art After Dark workshop. The Just for Educators program provides information on Leonardo Drew with strategies for translating workshop ideas for the classroom. For information and to receive professional development credit, contact Terri Dowell-Dennis by email at t_dowell@uncg.edu or 336.256.1449. Public Programming for "Existed: Leonardo Drew" is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
