How fast can you do Downtown? In the fun and exciting spirit of television’s The Amazing Race, Triad Stage and Downtown Greensboro, Inc. present Around Downtown in 80 Minutes – a fast and furious exploration of Downtown. The event takes place on Friday, February 5, from 7:00 pm – 8:20 pm, and begins and ends at Triad Stage.

2-person teams have just 80 minutes to visit as many Downtown “destinations” as possible, get their event passports stamped and collect valuable points along the way. The first three teams back to Triad Stage with the most points win prizes including tickets to Triad Stage productions, dinners from 223 South Elm and Vintage 301 restaurants and a night’s stay at the Biltmore Greensboro Hotel!

Pre-registration is required by Monday, February 1 and can be done so at Triad Stage’s website – www.triadstage.org. This is a free event. Participants must sign up in teams of two, and must be at least 18 years of age. The first 12 teams to sign up receive Downtown Greensboro reusable bags.

On the night of Friday, February 5, teams must sign in at Triad Stage’s main lobby between 6:00 pm and 6:45 pm. There they will receive their event passport and a map listing all of the race’s “destinations” as well as instructions on how to earn bonus points throughout the race. Teams will be released from Triad Stage at 7:00 pm and have 80 minutes to visit “destinations” and collect as many points as possible on foot. “Destinations” are worth different point values and an Around Downtown in 80 Minutes “travel agent” will be stationed at each “destination” to stamp the teams’ passports as proof of their visitation. The race is over at 8:20 pm, when all teams must return to Triad Stage for a post-race party with drinks, appetizers and raffle drawings as the judges tally the results. At 9:00 pm the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be announced.

Around Downtown in 80 Minutes’ “destinations” consist of a number of local restaurants, business and landmarks and include: 223 South Elm, Gate City Yarns, Greensboro Children’s Museum, Fincastle’s Diner, Biltmore Greensboro Hotel, Vintage 301, Chakras Spa, Greenhill Center for NC Art, Just Be, Jules Antiques & Fine Art, Golden Spiral Studio, Mack and Mack Clothing, Johnson’s Seafood Oyster bar, Architectural Salvage of Greensboro, Terra Blue, The Bargain Box, Old Photo Specialists, Greensboro Ballet, Mary Contrary, Natty Greene’s Pub and Brewing Company, the Greensboro Public Library Downtown branch, the Greensboro Historical Museum, the J. Douglas Galyon Depot and Ink Photography Production.

Around Downtown in 80 Minutes is held in conjunction with First Fridays and Triad Stage’s production of Around the World in 80 Days, performing February 7 – March 7, 2010.
