The Greensboro Children’s Museum (GCM) welcomes all families to come to the Museum January 18th through the 24th to see a child-sized replica of the original Woolworth Sit-in Counter on loan from the International Civil Rights Museum. The counter will be on display in the Museum’s lobby for visitors and Members and will be a part of the Museum’s ongoing Culture of Color educational program. Children will have the opportunity to sit at the counter, imagine what it was like for the four brave men from A&T University to take the bold move back in 1960 and learn more about the Sit-In and Civil Rights Movement. Museum staff will also be offering special story time throughout the week on the Movement and craft activities where children will get to create a unique welcome gift for our new neighbors at the International Civil Rights Museum. Story time and craft activities will be at 11:00am and 3:30pm on Tuesday-Friday. The Culture of Color program at GCM celebrates the traditions and history of different cultures through educational programs, story time, arts, crafts, theater dance, and visiting guests. During January, February and March, the Museum will celebrate the African American culture with special programs on Saturday, January 16th and Monday, January 18th commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Both days will be filled with special hands-on activities, story time and programs for children and families. Visit www.gcmuseum.com for more information.
