Happy New Years Contact Jam! Come kick in your fitness resolutions by rolling around with the citizens of Greensboro! We will be in Studio 323. Help us fill the space with bodies and bring a friend! City Arts, the Informall Theater Company and ShapeShifters are teaming up to host monthly Contact Improv Jams around the first Saturday of every month from 1:00 pm to 3pm. Jams will take place at the City Arts Dance Studio 323 in the Cultural Building at 200 N Davie St, downtown Greensboro. Donations will be accepted to help bring in guest teachers. Contact Improv is a dance form where points of physical contact provide the starting point for movement improvisation and exploration based on the laws of gravity, momentum, friction and inertia. Contact Improvisation is a form of dance improvisation and is one of the best-known and most characteristic forms of postmodern dance. In the social setting contact improvisation meetings are called "jams" in which participants can participate or watch as they choose. The name is perhaps derived from the "jams" of jazz musicians, who come together to spontaneously explore musical forms and ideas.
