Kick off the holiday season off by visiting the High Point Museum’s 26th Annual Holiday Open House Sunday, December 6 from 1 pm to 4 pm.

It’s a day filled with special reenactments, music, demonstrations, refreshments and hands-on activities. The Youth Jazz Orchestra from High Point Area Arts Council will perform from 1 pm to 1:30 pm. The Celebration Band from the High Point Area Arts Council will delight visitors from 1:30 pm to 2 pm. The Children’s and Youth Chorales from High Point Area Arts Council will entertain visitors from 2 pm to 2:30 pm and the Culler Senior Center’s Happy Tones will take the stage from 2:30 pm to 3 pm.

“This event provides a great opportunity to take a break from the hectic pace of the season and enjoy some time with friends and family in a fun, relaxed, and festive atmosphere,” Edith Brady, Museum Director, said.

New this year, the Museum’s collections staff will offer visitors at peek into the collection storage area and answer questions about preserving personal collections. The High Point Public Library also will be presenting story time and a holiday craft.

In the historical park, adjacent to the Museum, there will be weaving and blacksmithing demonstrations, as well as historic games and candle dipping. In the 1786 Haley House, visitors will enjoy listening to old-fashioned holiday music played on dulcimers. The High Point Museum Guild will offer cider and cookies in the Hoggatt House.

The High Point Historical Society also will be selling Haley House ornaments for $15 each at the event after that the price will go up to $18 each. The solid pewter ornaments are a first in a series. Start this historic collection today for yourself, children or grandchildren or as a time endearing holiday gift for friends, family and co-workers.
