Greensboro College will sponsor an exhibit titled “So, Where’re You From?” as part of “A Celebration of Diversity in the Arts” sponsored by The Johnnetta B. Cole Global Diversity & Inclusion Institute at Bennett College. That celebration runs throughout the month of March. “So, Where’re You From?” – it’s a familiar introduction heard over the fence or over grits at the local diner. It connotes beginnings and newfound friends, getting to know each other. The galleries at Greensboro College hope it will be an invitation to celebrate what’s new with us. A reception March 18 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. will open the show, which runs through April 5. The event is free and open to the public. The Irene Cullis Gallery – sporting a new entrance – will host drawings, paintings, photography, ceramics and sculpture by Greensboro College Art Department faculty members Ray Martin, Jim Langer, Janet Gaddy and Ginger Williamson. Guest artists Jim Amash and Mikang Lim also will take part in the exhibit. Amash is a contemporary comics artist of Palestinian origin who will display ink drawings highlighting his experiences. Lim, who is a ceramist, will display a sculptural piece. The newly refurbished and christened Gaylon Gallery, located in the lobby of the Cowan Humanities Building, will show essays and poems by Greensboro College’s English and communications faculty. Those writings and images from Kevin Rippin, Valerie Gnup, Sheila Nayar and Jillian Haeseler tackle themes such as home, origin, longing and belonging. For more information on “So Where’re You From?” contact Jim Langer, director of the Irene Cullis Gallery and assistant professor of art at 272-7102, ext. 361.
