- The Community Arts Café will host a special exhibition and reception for wood craftsman, Glenn Mace, in conjunction with The Piedmont Crafts Fair. The exhibit will be on display from Tuesday, November 17th through Sunday, November 22nd at the Gallery of the Arts, located at 411 West Fourth Street in downtown Winston-Salem. An opening reception will be held on Tuesday, November 17th from 5:30pm until 8:00pm at the gallery. Glenn Mace has worked around wood since he was very young helping his father in their sawmill during the summer. After a stint owning an art gallery Glenn began turning wood about twelve years ago. Glenn and his wife Linda now travel throughout the U.S. attending art shows. He recently received Best of Show honors at the 2009 West End Arts Fest in Winston-Salem. Glenn works with many different varieties of wood, including exotics such as Buckeye Burls. The characteristics of these woods vary greatly and Glenn chooses pieces that display both color and pattern. These objects now include finials that incorporate natural, found and even antique objects. Glenn also creates turned tops that help to embellish the final piece.
