Chinqua Penn Plantation Fall Festival

Children take center state at the annual Chinqua Penn Plantation Fall Festival, which will be held Nov. 7 at the historic mansion and grounds in Reidsville.

This year, the festival will include hayrides on the hour, courtesy of the N.C. Agriculture Research Station, which adjoins the mansion property. There will also be face painting and pony carousel rides. The Rockingham County Mineral Club will offer panning for gems and minerals for a fee.

Adults (and kids) can dress in Roarin' 20s outfits, since Chinqua Penn this year is combining the festival with its popular Great Gatsby Day celebration.

Music in the afternoon will be provided by the Penn Family Music Ensemble, featuring George Penn, who as a youngsters was a frequent visitor to the mansion.
 

 

A tradition at the festival will continue: The Disabled American Veterans will sell its popular stew, to benefit veterans programs. Barbeque, hamburgers and hot dog lunches, as well as bake-sale sweets and funnel cakes, will be available. There also will be craft vendors and local artists’ displays. Chinqua Penn will offer artistic, eclectic and one-of-a-kind gifts for purchase.

    Tickets: Chinqua Penn grounds-only admission is $5 per person, children 12 and under are free. Tours of the Chinqua Penn mansion are discounted $15 for adults; and $10 for youngsters 6 to 15.
