FESTIVALS

10th annual Triad Highland Games
May 2-May 3, 2008
Add Review/CommentThe tenth Triad games -- and the fifth to take place at Bryan Park -- will offer Scottish spectacles ranging from caber tossing and other heavy athletics to border collie demonstrations to music and dance to the Border Reivers Challenge, a battle skills event from the region along the England-Scotland border. The food and drink of Scotland will be featured at a Scotch whisky seminar Friday afternoon (tickets $15) and at the Tea Tent and Shortbread Competitions on Saturday. Vendors will also have Scottish food for sale. Clan tents will offer tartan-finding and genealogy assistance all during the day on Saturday – Clan Campbell is the honored clan this year -- and a Gaelic song and history tent will offer a look into the misty history of Scotland and the Scottish legacy that so permeates North Carolina. The games will get under way with a 7 p.m. concert Friday by the Celtic band Rathkeltair on the field at Bryan Park.
