The state Department of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance will conduct free event/venue recycling workshops across the state this summer, with one being held in Greensboro on July 14.

With the upcoming plastic bottle disposal ban (effective October 1, 2009), it is even more important that we remove this material from our waste stream. Not to mention how valuable plastic bottles are for area recycling markets. The new plastics recycling facility in Spartanburg, SC is hungry for material. Join us on one of the following days to learn more about recycling at special events and various venues. Each workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include lunch and a tour of a venue that is currently recycling.

What do we mean by Venue and Special Event recycling? We are talking about indoor and outdoor sports arenas, stadiums, concert venues, and civic centers. We also mean those outdoor special events you hold each year for your communities, such as earth day events, festivals, fairs, races, and the like. Or you might want to get recycling set up at your local little league soccer, football, and baseball fields. Even parks and recreational facilities have similar challenges and can learn from this workshop.
