Add Review/Comment
The diversity of modern painting will be the topic of Confluence 2009, a painting symposium hosted by the Department of Art at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro March 29-31.
“Confluence would refer to a meeting of numerous painting styles representing modern painting and diverse approaches to painting,” explained Patricia Wasserboehr, who heads the department.
The conference is open to the public at no charge.
Conference highlights include a panel discussion by four nationally and internationally recognized painters – Margaret McCann, Lecia Dole-Recio, Julie Shapiro and Caleb Weintraub – on a range of issues in contemporary painting. Dr. James Elkins, a prominent art critic, will moderate the panel discussion which starts at 10 a.m. Monday, March 30, in the Gatewood Studio Art Center Gallery.
Elkins will also give a lecture at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 29, in the Weatherspoon Art Museum auditorium. His talk will be followed by the 5:30 p.m. opening reception for an exhibit showcasing a range of contemporary art. The exhibit, displayed in the Gatewood Gallery, will run through April 23.
The symposium will also include a critique of graduate students’ work on Tuesday, March 31, starting at noon in Gatewood Studio Arts Building, Room 236.
