His gag cartoons have been published in The New Yorker, but the songs written by “hard scrabble singer-songwriter” (Time Out New York) and “erudite redneck” (Boston Globe) Andy Friedman aren’t written for laughs. "Friedman has a mastery of wordy self-loathing that many white dudes with guitars would kill for," says Nashville Scene.

The title track to his debut studio album, 2006's Taken Man (City Salvage Records/Rounder Europe), found itself at number 30 on the New York Post's "207 Best Songs To Download in 2007. ”

Nicknamed the “Hillbilly Leonard Cohen” (Athens News) and “The King of Art Country,” (Minneapolis City Pages) Friedman’s “fractured folk songs” (Los Angeles Times) explore issues of art, wild dreams, and wanderlust, while celebrating “those who wash down life’s knuckle sandwiches with ice-cold despair” (Time Out New York). NPR's Faith Salie adds, "Friedman is not exactly one of those musicians you play while you’re paying your bills or cleaning the house. His songs demand that you sit down and listen to them, which is why he is such a hot live act.”

In January of 2009 Friedman released his sophomore studio album, Weary Things (City Salvage/Kindred Rhythm), to widespread critical praise. Catch Friedman and his backing band, known as The Other Failures—“one of the most respected bands on the Brooklyn scene” (Cleveland Free Times)—
    in your town soon.

"There's something very down home about Old Stone Revue's "Heirloom." The 10 original songs here carry warmth and comfort, and sound as familiar as an old friend. It's a juicy slice of country/Americana to raise your glass (or beer can) to and bask in Old Stone Revue's warm, laid back vibe. The album mixes a few rollicking tunes with pretty, bittersweet ballads. "Long Ago," in partiuclar, is a melancholy gem." Ed Bumgardner - Relish, Winston Salem Journal reviewing Old Stone Revue's most recent CD release

The Magpies with local host Billie Feather

    www.myspace.com/billiefeatermusic
The Magpies bring a new reverent energy to roots music performance. The Ohio four-piece formerly known as Roger Hoover & The Whiskeyhounds are now four albums into a career that has taken them all over the country, preaching a rowdy gospel of sin, redemption, love, and death — it's indiefolkrockrevivalism.
"These boys are that perfect mash of rock, folk and that bit of twang…" – Hardcore-Troubadours.com
Hailing from somewhere between Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the soft-spoken Billie Feather is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter who finds her inspiration in everyday things and simple melodies. Classically trained in guitar at the North Carolina School of the Arts, Billie has expanded her post-graduate musical knowledge to the upright bass, banjo, and ukulele through performances in the nightclubs, and festivals of the Southeast. Billie finds herself to be just as comfortable in the classical music hall as in any dark, smoky dive bar. She has shared the stage with local bands the bo-stevens, The Darnell Woodies, Jem Crossland and the Hypertonics, and many more. Her influences are wide ranging, leaning heavily on The Beatles, Hank Williams, The Carter Family, Nick Drake, Nora Jones, and Lucida Williams.

    Big Ron Hunter

Carolina bluesman, Big Ron Hunter sings his story while he plays an acoustic guitar. He uses the guitar like a drum and bass while creating almost a second voice. Ron calls himself an ''Overcomer.'' Handed over to an adoptive couple at a young age. His adopted father taught him how to make his guitar talk and promised him he’d go places if he learned to play it right. After years of playing, mostly behind the scenes as he raised a family he’s finally got the chance to get out there and make a name for himself. He’s made a lot of fans playing acoustic sets at the Blues Bash in Charleston where he did double duty playing electric with the King Bees and Nappy Brown. The songs he writes have been pouring out for years. He has stories to tell and messages to deliver. Ron pours his heart out when he sings and plays.
