    Coming by Force, Overcoming by Choice will showcase artwork from instructors, professors, and administrators of several historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) from across the nation. It was originally organized by the NAAHBCU (The National Alliance of Artists from Historically Black Colleges and Universities) and the APEX Museum in Atlanta , GA. The NAAHBCU, founded in 2000 on the campus of Morris Brown College boasts over 60 member artists, educators, historians, collectors and friends of the arts. Members and exhibition participants from North Carolina area universities include Professors LeAnder Canady, Willie Hooker, and Brenda Faison from the Visual and Performing Arts Department of North Carolina A&T State University; Professor Marvette Aldrich from Winston Salem State University and Hasaan Kirkland from Johnson C. Smith University.
