Crosslove Theatre announces auditions for the original comedy, "The Phantom of the Southern Baptist Church." Directed by Scott Orr, Written by Artistic Director Mike Gilbert, Inspired by "The Phantom of the Opera" by Gaston Leroux. What happens when you take a classic, gothic novel that was turned into two musical plays and countless films, and turn it into a Mel Brooks-style spoof? Well take that answer, then set it in a church. Now you've got "The Phantom of the Southern Baptist Church." Ricky Chagney has returned to his home church in Atlanta, Georgia. However, he learns that his childhood sweetheart, Laurie Dying, has been under the teachings of a mysterious and invisible teacher. Soon, he learns that this mysterious teacher and a rumored "Church Ghost" are one in the same. Things begin to look bleak when the two new pastors do not give into the "Church Ghost's" demands. Ricky must utlizes the congregation of the church and his loopy, bed ridden aunt to unravel the mystery of the Phantom before Laurie is lost forever. Rated PG for slight crude humor and strong physical comedy--all involving a frying pan. Rehearsals and performance dates will be scheduled following casting. Actors must be able to fully commit to a two weekend performance run, possibly in April, and the entire week leading up to the show.
