DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: No Need to Touch=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.gotriadscene.com/event/detail/3240=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2007-07-15=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2007-07-29=0D=0A=0D=0AFiber-Based Exhibition Challenges Traditions at the African American Atelier
=0D=0A=Greensboro, NC – (June 26, 2007) – presents No Need to Touch, a fiber-based exhibition created by Delores M. Johnson of DelMaj Creations. No Need to Touch opens July 15, 2007 until July 29, 2007 at the African American Atelier, Inc. The artist reception is slated for Sunday, July 15, 2007 at 3:00 p.m in the Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 N. Davie Street, Greensboro, North Carolina.
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=Per the usual gallery viewing experience, the show examines the relationship between the creation and its onlooker through texture, dimension, color and visual contact with the work.
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=“A very important component of Atelier’s mission is education. Through our highly-visible gallery we are able to provide artists and curators with the opportunity to experiment and challenge visitors’ preconceived ideas about contemporary art and culture. As a not-for-profit, we take particular pleasure in featuring work by emerging artists and focusing on under-represented movements within our thriving visual arts community. For many, by virtue of our location, the Cultural Arts Center serves as their formal introduction to contemporary art and professional artists. No Need to Touch features artist Delores Johnson’s works of nylon and silk to evoke the most natural human desire: the desire to touch but please don’t.
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=“Fiber-based art, which has a long-standing and dignified place within art history, has recently become more recognized because of its relatively unexploited nature as a medium in the contemporary art world.
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=No Need to Touch explores visitors’ sensory relationship with art through floral creations that tempt them to physically touch the work. Creations by Delores Johnson will entice viewers to visually discover the complexities of a design composed of nylon, silk and wire – a work created with panty hose but as a piece of art.
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=The mission of the African American Atelier is to promote an awareness, appreciation and sensitivity to the visual arts and culture of African Americans while working in harmony with other ethnic groups.
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=Gallery hours are Tuesday- Saturday 10:00 AM – 5PM, Wednesday 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM, and Sunday 2:00pm -5:00pm.
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=To contact the African American Atelier call 336-333-6885, fax 336-373-4826 or visit us at our website, http://www.africanamericanatelier.org
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=Partial funding support for the African American Atelier exhibitions and programs are provided by The United Arts Council. All programs are free and open to the public. The community is cordially invited to attend.
=0D=0A==0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:No Need to Touch opens
=0D=0A=July 15, 2007 until July 29, 2007 The artist reception is Sunday, July 15, 2007 at 3:00 p.m
